In my artistic practice, I move away from the usual academic expectations of developing a single, recognizable visual style. Instead, my work is primarily guided by intuitive and emotional responses that come from various outside influences as well as personal experience. Nature, childhood memories, and the cultural heritage of my native Zagorje region are a constant source of inspiration and the foundation of my work. Nature has multiple meanings for me. It offers an endless range of forms and textures that I bring to the surface of the canvas, and it also holds strong emotional value, connected to memories of carefree days spent in the shade of green landscapes. By keeping a distance from mainstream art trends, whether consciously or instinctively, I have focused on a spontaneous and honest way of working that is free from outside expectations. While many contemporary artists explore social issues such as alienation or consumerism, I have chosen a different direction. Through my paintings, I want to encourage the viewer to reconnect with essential human values and with the richness of the natural world that is often overlooked. I believe my work carries a sense of innocence and openness that we all once had as children, but often lose over time. By holding on to that part of myself, I try to bring real emotion and personal experience into each painting.
Using different textures and simple forms, I express direct impressions of nature woven together with memory. I build layered compositions in the hope that their energy will invite the viewer to recall a moment in life when they felt truly free. Cultural heritage and tradition are also important parts of my practice. I am inspired by local customs, folk stories, legends, and dialect, all of which often appear in my work. Traditional symbols serve as a connection between past and present, allowing me to combine both into a single artistic expression. These elements of memory, nature, emotion, and tradition, come together in works that sometimes include urban landscapes, animals, portraits, or human relationships. These subjects are explored on the edge between figuration and abstraction. My goal is not to depict literal scenes from life, but to open a space for reflection on our connection with nature, with our roots, with heritage, and with each other.
